Meet Monisha, Melanie's younger sister/fashion guru/press agent/defense attorney/biggest fan. Melanie always says she looks the most beautiful in pictures Monisha takes because there is no one else who tells her when she doesn't look fabulous. In turn, Monisha has always been the most excited during all of Melanie's biggest milestones and even claims the proposal was "the best day of her life!"
When Kruti first came to the United States, she stayed with Melanie's family. Suddenly, Melanie had the older sister she always wanted! Kruti loves fashion and shopping and always passed down clothes to Melanie. Even today, some of Melanie's favorite outfits are from Kruti! She's always there to lend an ear and brought Nysa into this world, Melanie's favorite niece!
Gina picked Melanie out of a lineup of tutors in their freshman year of college at Rutgers University. Even during the worst parts of college, Gina was always a steady, kind presence in Melanie's life and ready with advice and good company.  Then, she introduced Melanie to Amy and the Trio was born! As you can guess, Gina is the level-headed decision-maker of the group. No matter what nonsensical things Melanie and Amy want to do, Gina always finds a way!
When Gina introduced Melanie and Amy, they hit if off right away. How could they not? Two loud, silly, 20ish girls. However, unlike Melanie, Amy is full of contradictions. She loves delicious food, but used to make grilled cheese sandwiches in the microwave! She loves being with her friends/family, but set off alone across the country and prefers solo vacations! The Trio balance each other perfectly and even when other friends became distant, their bond only grew stronger.
Melanie and Lucy met on the first day of their first year of medical school. Melanie had picked a vegetarian sandwich from the buffet when she saw Lucy across the room. She walked up to her and noticed that Lucy also had a vegetarian sandwich.
"Oh, are you a vegetarian?" asked Melanie
"No. Are you a vegetarian?" asked Lucy, glancing at Melanie's sandwich
"No." said Melanie, sitting down next to her
Thus, best friends were born.
No one says you have to be friends with your boyfriend's friend's girlfriend, but as Sarah and Melanie got to know each other, they realized they had too much in common to NOT be friends. They rejoiced in their shared low tolerances for alcohol and strangers during wine + gossips nights and unified against the boys during hours-long Pandemic Legacy sessions. I'm sure both Raza and Mandar breathed a sigh of relief to find Sarah and Melanie always on the same page!
Harry was the first cat Melanie and Raza adopted. He took to the couple immediately and was not shy when making new friends either. Recently, he was even seen stealing the heart of Melanie's niece! Even so, Harry can mostly be found hanging around his favorite owner, Raza.
Lukas came into the family second and took a long time to get used to everyone. He spent a full 3 weeks hiding under the furniture! Even now, he still runs away from everyone, but will occasionally snuggle up to his owners. Although Melanie has not been living with them for the past few years, it's a known fact that Lukas still likes Melanie way more!

The middle Haider brother, Kazim has a gift for knowing how to get under Raza's skin. He and Raza have been butting heads for over 2 decades, and do not look to stop anytime soon. Of the three siblings, he is the "social butterfly," able to make friends/network with virtually anyone, the biggest "troll," to the point where no one can take anything he says seriously, and the best athlete. He is also the self-appointed defender against Raza's jokes, kicking his older brother out of family Facebook groups for days/weeks at a time after particularly bad puns.
The youngest Haider brother compensated for his smaller stature when facing his older brothers by either, a. yelling "ow, stop hurting me," so that their parents would rush over or, b. reminding them that, as the only American-born of them, he could become president and send them to jail. While Abbas does not (yet) hold political office, he has grown up to be the most level-headed and "sassiest" sibling. He recently moved out, relocating to a brand-new part of the country and completing his transition from "baby of the family" to full-fledged adult.
Angad, Clarence and Raza call themselves, "Les Trois Amis," as they met in French class. Angad came up with the name, as well as a signal and t-shirts. He was the outgoing one - he invited Raza and Clarence to tennis, sleep-overs, and even road trips. Before Angad, Raza only really saw friends in school, but Angad expanded his idea of what friendship could be. Fifteen years in, their friendship is still going strong - Raza sees Angad on every visit to Atlanta, no matter what, and Angad has thrice come to Cleveland. No one ever comes to Cleveland.
Clarence, also one of "Les Trois Amis," resides in Cali, embodying the West Coast lifestyle; Raza is a Mid-westerner. Clarence works for start-ups, switching companies to pursue his passions. Raza has been studying at Case for 6 years. Clarence dances extremely well, teaching dance as a side-business. When it comes to dancing, Raza . . . tries. Nevertheless, they know if they need to chat, vent, hear hard truths, they can rely on one another. Friends since 7th grade, there is nothing they cannot discuss, and no one (except Angad) they trust more.
Mandar was a central part of Raza's medical school experience. They hung out a lot in M1 year, playing pool after class and even going on occasional out-of-town trips. He was the one who introduced Raza to Bombay Chaat, Raza's favourite restaurant in Cleveland; he was also the first person Raza told about Melanie, and the first of Raza's friends Melanie met and liked. Mandar and Raza (along with their SO's) visit each other roughly once a year to reconnect and also to attempt to finish the game of Pandemic Legacy Season 0 that they started Fall 2020.
Dongyan and Raza’s relationship has been defined by battle. over the course of their 6 year acquaintance, they have competed in pool, foosball, basketball, Supersmash Bros . . . They have also played their fair share of ping-pong, but that was hardly “competing” since Raza always dominated. Dongyan has been Raza’s rival, friend, roommate/tenant, but, most importantly, his Seema Auntie (i.e. matchmaker), because it was he who invited Melanie to come to the “foosball club” where she first noticed Raza. He kicked off their story.
Laura and Raza met in France in 2012, but did not become close until Raza came to Case, where Laura was already studying. Laura became Raza’s “Cleveland Mom,” introducing him to Michell’s ice cream, bringing him snacks before exams and letting him play with her pet hedgehogs during stressful times. In turn, Raza called her when he came up with a new pun, and provided a sympathetic ear the few times Laura needed someone to whom to vent. Cleveland is Raza's home, and Laura is one of the people who make the city feel like it.
When Angad told Raza about Urvashi, Raza knew he would like her. How could he not like someone who his best friend so happy and excited? What Raza did not expect was how quickly he and Urvashi would become friends themselves. Whenever Raza called Angad, he and Urvashi would chat too. She played games, in person and online, with Raza, and proved to be a capable trash-talker. Urvashi was also great at giving advice, especially about girls, which Raza repaid by helping her tease/prank Angad. To Raza, Urvashi is the fourth member of, "Les Trois Amis."
Allison and Raza's friendship began because she lent him a tent; when Raza returned it, they ended up watching the masterpiece, Roadhouse, together. A woman of culture, Allison introduced Raza to many things - Jasper Fforde, Beyonce's "Lemonade," Brooklyn 99 - but the most significant was her cat Chairman Meow (RIP), who helped Raza overcome his fear of felines. Raza loved exploring Cleveland with Allison, hanging out with her every weekend. After she graduated, their adventures became more infrequent, but still continued, just in her new cities.
Anna and Raza met during the Cavaliers Championship parade, but they did not really interact until Raza, Allison, and another friend were kicked out of DiveBar months later. Anna wanted the details, so she and Raza met up, and that initial hang-out blossomed into a 6+ year friendship. They call often to check up on each other and discuss Anna's 3 cats, Raza's dislike of Ed Sheeran or any other random topic. Raza feels like he can talk about truly anything with Anna, and no matter how aimless the discussion, she will have something insightful to say.
Raza and Justin were roommates their sophomore year at Emory because they could find no one else with whom to live, and it was one of the best decisions Raza ever made. They developed a fast friendship, which included Friday night ping-pong , monthly restaurant outings around Atlanta, and regular chats about the importance of creating passive income streams. Sadly, Justin became an RA as a Junior, cutting their time as roommates short, but their friendship endured, as evidenced by their being groomsmen in each other's weddings 10 years later.
